The case of three men who were arrested in February this year for the alleged murder of an International University of Management (IUM) student in August last year, has been remanded until the end of next month.
Shadino Bowe, 23, Llewelyn Beukes, 22, and Wildrew Visagie, 22, made another appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court yesterday when they were informed that their case was being postponed to August 28 in order to allow the police investigating officer to bring the case docket before court.
The three, who were released on bail of N$5 000 each, appeared before magistrate Alpha Haihambo.
The late IUM student, Eliakim Kandali Inane, was killed in the Otjomuise area between August 2 and 4 last year.
The trio was granted bail on May 29 of this year at the end of a formal joint bail application hearing.
Bail was granted with conditions attached that the three accused will report themselves to the Wanaheda Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between 08:00 and 16:00 every week.
On May 6 this year and during the hearing of their formal bail application, the three accused each vehemently denied any knowledge and involvement in the incident.
“We have no knowledge of the alleged killing incident at all.
We know nothing about this incident. We will never run away from Namibia to other neighbouring countries if we are granted bail, because we did nothing wrong,” said the three men in their evidence-in-chief at the time.
They also told the court that they will each offer a plea of not guilty to all four charges - murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, malicious damage to property and attempting to obstruct the course of justice - when the trial proper begins.
Windhoek-based defence lawyers Boris Isaaks, James Diedericks and Milton Engelbrecht are representing the three men.
Public Prosecutor Fatima Mendonsa represented the State yesterday.
Khomas Regional Crime Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Sylvanus Nghishidimbwa said that the victim’s body had been cut as the police found blood and razors near the corpse.
