WINDHOEKELVIS MURARANGANDA
United Democratic Front (UDF) councillor for Okahandja, Fredrick Shimanda, had been arrested and charged with theft from a car.
The local authority politician appeared before the Okahandja Magistrate's Court yesterday and was released on N$2 000 bail.
This was confirmed yesterday by Nampol spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi.
“Allegedly there has been an ongoing thing [agreement] between him [Shimanda] and someone. After he [Shimanda] failed to pay the person, they opened a case against him,” said Shikwambi.
The agreement was allegedly entered into last year, but it went sour, and the accuser decided to have the local authority official charged with alleged theft from a vehicle.
Shikwambi could not reveal any further information about the nature of the agreement and what exactly had allegedly been stolen.
UDF president Justus Garoeb and the party's secretary-general, Dudu Murorua, could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.
