The Khomas police have opened a case of attempted murder after a man was shot following an argument with another man over a woman in the Okahandja Park informal settlement.
The incident happened on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Edwin Kanguatjivi said one of the men allegedly took out a firearm and shot the victim following the argument.
He said the suspect was then hit by someone else with a blunt object.
Kanguatjivi said on Sunday that both men are fighting for their lives in hospital. He said what puzzles the police is that the firearm ended up being in possession of the shooting victim.
In another shooting incident, a man was shot three times in the buttocks and left upper arm on Saturday by an unknown person, who robbed him of N$500 and a cellphone.
The incident took place at the corner of Monte Christo and Matshitshi roads at 23:18.
“The suspect ran away and police investigations in the matter continue,” said Kanguatjivi.
The Khomas police have also opened up a case of culpable homicide, after the driver of a vehicle with a South African registration number died in an accident on Saturday evening along Otjomuise Road.
Kanguatjivi said the driver collided with the bridge near the Gammams Sewage Works and then hit an oncoming vehicle, before overturning.
The driver died at the scene.
In another road accident, the driver of a Volkswagen Polo ran over a pedestrian, who died on the spot along Otjomuise Road on Saturday.
The driver had a learner’s licence and was accompanied by a driving instructor. Kanguatjivi said poor visibility caused the accident.
In the Omusati Region, the police have opened an inquest after a woman was found dead in front of her sleeping hut within a homestead.
The incident happened on Saturday at Oikango village in the Outapi Constituency. Kanguatjivi said the deceased is identified as Lahja Eita.
He said her remains have been taken to the Okahao police mortuary for an autopsy.
The Omusati police are also investigating the rape of an 11-year-old girl, who was allegedly molested by a neighbour.
Kanguatjivi said the crimes happened during January and February this year at a village in the Ogongo Constituency.
The case was only registered with the police on March 15.
“It is reported that the suspect, who is the neighbour of the victim, allegedly had sexual intercourse with her on various occasions without her consent,” Kanguatjivi said.
It is alleged that the sexual acts took place in the suspect’s house. The suspect in the case has not yet been arrested.
