The My Life, My Future Expo will hopefully lead people from financial survival or stability to financial independence. This was said at the official opening of the expo yesterday by Albe Botha, chief executive officer of Democratic Media Holdings (DMH), which is the organiser of the expo taking place at Arebbusch Travel Lodge for the next three days. DMH is the holding company of daily newspapers Republikein, Namibian Sun and Allgemeine Zeitung as well as the printing company Newsprint. According to Botha, the expo focusing on retirement investment, health and lifestyle is a unique platform bringing together the best on offer in these industries. Various companies involved in investment, health and lifestyle products will be promoting their products and services at the exhibition until tomorrow. This expo is aimed at visitors seeking advice on issues relating to financial and lifestyle planning, but also for those seeking advice to ensure a stress-free and comfortable retirement. “Interaction these days is so rare with people living very busy lives and we decided that the best way to bring this unique event to our readers and suppliers it to create a platform where active engagement can take place and our clients can also see and interact with us, as we would like to hear from our clients what more we can focus on to meet their needs,” Botha said. He said he hopes the expo will help people to ensure that they live a full, stress-free and enjoyable life through financial planning for the future, as it makes no sense to have money and not enjoy it. According to Botha, the exhibition follows on 15 years of the organisers successfully hosting the annual Namibia Tourism Expo, which takes place annually in early June. Designed to take full advantage of the venue’s beautiful gardens and water features, the expo offers workshops and information seminars to attract visitors approaching retirement and planning for it. Visitors will also enjoy the freedom to compare retirement, investment and lifestyle products and services on offer. “DMH’s aim is for a long-term commitment to provide the most effective public forum for the retirement industries, one which is constructive and which will assist in servicing the needs of Namibians. Our commitment to the industry is to offer a quality exhibition by providing value and delivering an efficient promotion for all organisations,” the company says in the official expo information pack. Companies especially targeted include financial and investment planning services, retirement planning and lifestyle services, taxation and legal advisors and information services, leisure and recreation, personal and home security and safety, storage and removals, aesthetics and wellness services. The venue offers two exhibition halls, a conference area for workshops and presentations and a restaurant. Meanwhile, the first 400 senior citizens visitors to visit the Noah stall at the expo will receive complimentary coffee and cake, courtesy of the First National Bank (FNB). Namibia Old Age Helpfund (Noah) provides a lifeboat for senior citizens lacking the means to afford medical services. That counts not just for those desperately in need of the not-for-profit enterprise’s services, but also for anyone willing to support the Channel 7 initiative financially. Noah’s main source of income at present is Channel 7’s ‘Loslitdag’ (Casual Day) and every cent collected during the annual charity event is reinvested in Noah’s operations. At last year’s event, Namibians who loosened their joints on ‘Loslitdag’, managed to rake in just over N$245 000. Noah, however, needs at least N$ 400 000 per year to support needy pensioners with their medical needs. The entrance fees to the expo are N$30 for adults, N$15 for schoolchildren and students, and pensioners can enter for free. The gates are open from 10:00 to 19:00, except for tomorrow when they close at 14:00.
