An internal investigation by the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) into allegations that the Oshiwambo Radio Service was used to intimidate voters has been completed.
NBC Head of Corporate Affairs Umbi Karuaihe-Upi told Namibian Sun yesterday that the final report is on the desk of NBC Director-General Albertus Aochamub, awaiting his decision.
“As soon we know something, we will communicate it to the media,” said Karuaihe-Upi.
The national broadcaster started with an internal investigation after NamRights Executive Director Phil ya Nangoloh accused a radio presenter of using his show to intimidate voters.
According to Ya Nangoloh, Kondjashili Simon - better known on radio as Mapeni Protocol - a fortnight ago told listeners to register as voters or risk forfeiting essential services provided by government.
Ya Nangoloh claimed that Simon warned listeners that those who fail to register to vote would not be given drought relief assistance or jobs in the civil service, as the government has ways and means to find out who has not registered to vote.
Simon has denied all the accusations levelled against him.
Karuaihe-Upi yesterday added that Aochamub had reviewed all material related to the incident and a decision would soon be announced.
“We had to go back to the tapes and listen to everything, so that we can have a better view of what exactly happened. All that has already been done and we will let you know what steps NBC will take in this regard. We have to be fair to all the parties and that is why it is necessary for us to conduct a proper investigation,” said Karuaihe-Upi.
