OMARURU NAMPA

Omaruru residents have expressed delight with development programmes under way here through the Targeted Intervention Programme for Employment and Economic Growth (Tipeeg).
Some residents told Nampa at the weekend that they are especially happy with the Build Together housing scheme through which they can acquire houses.
Resident Nicodemus Tjiondo moved into his house last week Sunday.
"The construction work on my house finished last weekend, so we had to move in. I am busy painting the outside walls of my house," he said proudly.
But Tjiondo complained that he couldn't afford more paint to complete the job.
Erna Kuzatjike and her children moved into their house last Tuesday, and said they are happy, but she too complained about a lack of enough paint for her house.
Omaruru Mayor Vincent Kahua said the town council last week distributed about 400 litres of free paint to the owners of the Build Together houses.
He admitted that one 10-litre container cannot cover one house completely, but said it was the council's contribution, and home owners also have to do their part.
The new houses are part of several projects under way at the town.
Omaruru Deputy Mayor Albertus !Naruseb told Nampa recently that 25 different streets totalling about 5.6 kilometres are being tarred in the Ozondje residential area, while over 150 low-cost houses are being built and residential and business erven being serviced.
Pedestrian pathways are being paved with interlocking bricks, while a small bridge near Omaruru State Hospital is being strengthened and a new dumpsite created.
Other residents who were interviewed also expressed happiness with the development brought about by the town council.
Ringo Hoebeb, a teacher at the SI !Gobs Senior Secondary School, said the Omaruru Town Council is doing a good job by developing the town.
He said it is impressive to see significant developments happening around Omaruru, compared to what the town had looked like three years ago.
He praised the Omaruru municipality for creating job opportunities for the residents through the projects happening here.
Another resident, Jack Tjijahura, who works for the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, said development throughout the town is visible and only traitors would be against it.
He said in the past five years only one tarred road between the Kashana Lodge and the Omaruru Prison was upgraded, while now the entire Ozondje township is being tarred.
