A farmworker in the Karasburg District plans to press charges against his employer for allegedly punching him, breaking his jaw.
Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Isaak of the //Karas police said the incident took place last Saturday afternoon.
The owner of the farm Hoachanas, Pieter van Zyl, 57, alleged that Petrus Skeyer, who works on his farm, had broken into his house and stolen liquor worth N$1 074.
Van Zyl then allegedly hit Skeyer with his fist. Skeyer was transferred to the Keetmanshoop State Hospital from the Karasburg State Hospital for treatment.
Van Zyl laid a charge of theft against Skeyer, and the case was postponed until October 30 because Skeyer was still in hospital.
Deputy Commissioner Isaak said Skeyer was discharged from hospital yesterday and indicated that he intended pressing charges against Van Zyl.
Last month, Namibian Sun reported about another case in which Karasburg farmer Jan Adriaanse, 26, allegedly ran over stock theft suspect Benjamin Jossop with his bakkie.
Van Zyl is out on bail of N$3 000.
At the time, the chief of the Bondelswarts clan, Josef Christian, said the community was angry about Adriaanse being granted bail.
"Some of these farmers are known for mistreating black people here, but the cases always just disappear," he claimed.
