WINDHOEK-HECTOR MAWONGA
Fresh from hosting an exciting bonanza in Oshikango, the MTC Sunshine Academy is set to return with another card, which will take place on October 5.
On that night the likes of Paulus 'The Hitman' Moses, Bethuel 'Tyson' Uushona and Vikapita 'Beastmaster' Meroro will step into the ring as they intensify their efforts to become world champions.
Moses, who is on a three fight winning streak, will defend his WBO International lightweight title against Argentina's Leonardo Esteban Gonzalez, who has a record of 21 wins from 26 fights with 4 losses and a solitary draw.
Uushona, who used his bout in Oshikango as preparation for this fight, will likewise also put his WBO Africa welterweight title on the line when he takes on South Africa's Kaizer Mabuza.
Meroro, who is the interim WBO Africa cruiserweight, will be stepping into the ring against Tanzania's Pascal Ndomba.
Promoter, Nestor Tobias at a press conference yesterday said that since these are all world rated boxers, boxing fans can expect an explosive night of action.
“This is the road to world titles because if these guys do well, then a world title will not be too far away,” he said; highlighting the fact that Moses is currently ranked at number 2 in his weight division by the WBO.
“[Moses'] opponent has a good record and it will not be an easy walk in the park for him... For the Beastmaster there are a lot of good things coming if he wins this fights,” Tobias added.
Soweto's revenge
Uushona, meanwhile, is vowing to settle a score when he takes on Mabuza, who famously fought -and lost- against American Zab Judah for the IBF world light welterweight title in 2011.
The Namibian boxer, who hails from the Windhoek township of Soweto, explained that the South African is the man that ended the career of his homeboy, Jason 'Taks' Naule.
“I want to do this for Naule because we both come from Soweto. I want him to be in my corner so that he can show me exactly where to hurt him,” Uushona said in reference to the fact that Naule twice lost against Mabuza.
“He ended my boy's career and it is time to punish him and for sure I have to do it,” he added.
Other fighters that will also be in action on the night include Martin 'Black Poison' Haikali, former Olympic participant, Japhet Utoni, Mike Shonena and the exciting Abraham 'Energy' Ndaendapo.
While the venue is yet to be finalised, tickets will go on sale soon with a regular ticket costing N$100. VIP entrance is set at N$500.
