WINDHOEKELVI S MURARANGANDA

A head-on collision between a lorry and a bakkie near Otjiwarongo killed six people and left three children and a woman seriously injured on Tuesday night.
Five of the deceased died instantly while another died on the way to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital.
The three children and the woman were rushed to the Katutura State Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment. Two people escaped unhurt.
Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi of the Namibian Police told Namibian Sun that a Scania truck collided with a bakkie about 80 km south of Otjiwarongo.
The truck was from Windhoek while the bakkie was from Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region.
"A case of culpable homicide has been opened based on the evidence collected, which will then be presented to the courts," said Kanguatjivi.
Stephen Tjiuoro of the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund said: "The Okahandja - Otjiwarongo road in particular has become synonymous with serious crashes which lead to fatalities, most of which happen at night.
"Past experience has shown that driving at night, when visibility is compromised and driver fatigue is likely, is a major contributing factor to road crashes."
The names of the victims have not yet been released.
