Namibia’s poverty shame

The Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare faces an uphill battle as it tries to push back the tide of poverty in the country that sees over half a million Namibians live on less than N$12 a day.
This grim reality was laid bare in two poverty reports released by the National Planning Commission (NPC) yesterday in the capital.
The reports indicated that the largely rural northern regions of Kavango, Oshikoto, Zambezi, Kunene and Ohangwena remain the poorest in the country, with more than one third of the population poor.
