A clinical psychologist treating convicted rapists cited the absence of fathers in their children’s lives as one of the major factors leading Namibian men to rape.
She mentioned other social factors such as broken homes, child abuse, low self-esteem, unemployment, religious and cultural norms as well as the rise of women to prominence and independence.
It has been noted that men who rape show little or no remorse for their actions and often lie during therapy sessions, making it more difficult for rehabilitation efforts to be a success.
