A 67-year-old woman died after a fire broke out in her room at Farm Hartseer in the Kunene Region’s Kamanjab Constituency last week Monday.
The woman has been identified as Liseta Nawases.
According to a crime report issued by Nampol, Nawases and her husband, also a pensioner, were home alone at their residence on the farm where they slept in separate rooms.
The fire, thought to have been caused by an oil lamp, broke out after Nawases turned in for the night.
She started screaming for help but her elderly husband could not come to her aid as she had locked her
door. Nawases was burnt beyond recognition.
Suicide
In the Opuwo Constituency, the police opened an inquest docket after a 24-year-old woman committed suicide at Okatjetje village.
According to the Nampol crime report the woman was found hanging from a tree with a rope around her neck just a few metres away from her homestead.
The incident occurred on Monday at around 15:15.
The motive behind the alleged suicide is not known as no suicide note was left behind.
The woman’s next of kin have been informed.
